The well-kept park with the terraced garden of the grotto in the middle, based on the Thetis grotto of Versailles, framed by the Unstrut canal with the tea house in the park, is part of the garden dreams “Historical parks in Anhalt”adorned by eleven statues by the Altenburg sculptor Joseph Blühme.

Burgscheidungen Castle is one of the best preserved and most remarkable baroque secular buildings in the Thuringian and Saxon-Anhalt region. A curved flight of stairs leads to the palace garden. The Italian terrace garden with its sculptures and the grotto courtyard was also laid out by the builder David Schatz, the stone figures (gods, goddesses and mythical creatures) were created by the sculptor Joseph Blühme from Altenburg in the years 1726-291.

This castle consists of several buildings listed at different times, of which only the one at the western entrance belongs to the 11th century. The well is 400 feet deep. The castle chapel, one of those extremely rare double chapels, has two storeys above one another, of which the upper one deserves special attention because of its beautiful pillar knobs and ornamentation of the arched belts. The castle tower, 147 feet high, affords a beautiful and expansive view.

From 1956 until the fall of the Berlin Wall, the palace was owned by the Eastern CDU. Since 2008 the castle has been in private ownership and will now be transformed into a castle of the future.
